Retro thoughts (by a survival)
I found myself jocking on the destiny of the Donkey Kong princess and her save costs. And I posed the question to Gemini AI who replied me with a complete cost assestment divided in psychological costs (princess prisoner in a construction site instead of a castle), monetary costs (0.25$ per game) and Mario costs (repeated 3 lives sacrifices). A Really funny outcome! So, I started to wonder what're the differences beteeen retro games and modern games, and I finished to list them like the following:
1) Length of the story and its complexity
Retro games could have a lengthy story but they have a simpler and limited class of outcomes easy to perceive and memorize. Further than a simpler scenography. Modern games have a further more complex graphic and play interface.
2) Moral engagement
Retro games are infinitly more easy to perceive and uncounsciously forcast in their outcomes.
3) Time and material engagement
Retro games have a limited number of games that the user can play. Further than the user must insert a coin every time it start over. This way the user is pushed to wonder what are its material constraints.
Standalone survival
Time to time I look to the good of software like Telegram and I immediately think its difference with other standalone programs like browsers, and strangely enough it come out that this latter software fails on privacy, security and so fourth. I wonder, shared service or on premise, going online what will be the loses apart on usability?
Content production support
In a world always more content centric, where content makes the real difference, is maybe correct to study and contain software cost policy to support modern production happening 🤗
On-premise wow
The subject of decentralizing stuff is so important that also penalties like overlapping stuff between sites gets downgraded. And, indeed, I find also good reasons to wow this overlapping stuff for security or *mere* rendundancy. The matter could be simplified in: when the upload of my stuff can be promoted to an on-premise one?
Joke: We are responsible for our coffee
Ever heard: why I have to take responsibility for others when 90% of other people do not take responsibility neither for themselves?
In our caffe we take responsibility for our coffee, indeed.
Joke: "Fast" wont change your future
Sentence mostly inaccurate indeed, mobile fast charging is actually crap: batteries last half and their lives get probably compromised. Pay attention, some producers are opting to give away Fast and Super fast chargers as default option bundled with their mobile devices.
In our cafe we offer power banks for slow charging on every table for free!
Charger gatekeeper
Said about the cable standardization we kept checking our storage room. And opening its door we found ourselves completely surnounted by a real mass of mobile chargers that with diferrent ouput values serve well as gatekeeper for the accessories market of any device. Should innovation pass by standardizing chargers too maybe out of the box?
Nowarez market
I guess it is about an eight years that the first drafts of the so defined anti-piracy legislation was splushing on some european public desks. And I'm wondering when the IT market started to show off some negative outfits, not so trendy for the software industry landscape? Certainly it could be a coincidence if these events match. Less opportunistic is the case of the no industry intervention to support the gap left by the application of the legistlation quoted above into the software market. Indeed, how many companies register an high download rate of their 14 days software trials? At this point the opensource princess, alone, hopefully will save the last shelters.
Goofy interface
I always went ahead dreaming the more sophisticated interface for a mere game between the new technology allowed by the last innovations. Instead, I finally resorted to teach a couple of new generations what is the feeling of the '90s web in the last look-n-feel of NuMode website. This is a disperate case!
